Kubica plays down Valencia pace
Valencia: Poland`s Robert Kubica was the fastest driver on track when he clocked 1min 13.144sec in his Lotus-Renault, edging out Force India`s Adrian Sutil on the final day of Formula One testing.
But Kubica was quick to play down his speed after a trying day at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit circuit.
"You can split the day into two parts. It would be difficult to speak of a positive day as we couldn`t do our first laps until 1.30 in the afternoon," said Kubica, after seeing his car suffer technical hitches.
"Due to the time lost in the morning, we couldn`t do the number of laps we expected. Having said that, it`s best to have these little difficulties now than in the first race in Bahrain."
Sutil put in 117 laps and was pleased on his return to the cockpit for the first time this year.
"It felt good to be in the car again after a few months away. Everything went pretty smoothly, as we expected with the VJM03, so we could complete the work we wanted to do," said the German, whose next test will be in Jerez next week.
McLaren`s Jenson Button, the 2009 world champion, was third fastest in last year`s MP4-25, a boost ahead of the team`s 2011 launch in Berlin on Friday of the MP4-26.
"I was quite happy with the way the car was working; we did a lot of good work on set-up. We’re moving in the right direction," said Button.
"Now I’m looking forward to seeing the new car tomorrow and starting to test it properly next week."
