Former NASCAR racing champion Tony Stewart is being investigated by police after an incident on the race track at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, the US media reported.

ESPN.com said that officials are investigating a crash at the dirt track involving one of the race cars and another driver who was on foot and not in a vehicle. The Ontario County Sheriff`s Department told FOX Sports that they are investigating the incident. One person was believed to be transported to hospital but there was no word on the severity of the injuries, ESPN said. Witnesses said three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Stewart did not appear to have been injured. The incident happened during a Empire Super Sprints race which was being held on the eve of a NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International where Stewart was scheduled to compete on Sunday. The rest of the Empire Super Sprints races were cancelled after the incident.
