Team England stuns Sebastian Vettel's Team Germany to claim Nations Cup

London: Team Germany, led by Ferrari Formula One driver Sebastian Vettel, were stunned in the final of the Nations` Cup at the Race of Champions as they were defeated by a little-fancied English team at London`s Olympic Stadium on Friday.

Vettel, and team-mate Nico Hulkenberg, lost to an English tourings cars team of Andy Priaulx and Jason Plato in the final after a knock-out tournament involving some of the world`s best drivers.

Vettel, as part of team Germany, was looking for his seventh Nations Cup title but it wasn`t to be.

The four-time Formula One driver stuttered at the start of his clash with Priaulx and couldn`t recover as Priaulx put the English team one point up.

However, Hulkenberg clawed Germany back into the contest as he defeated Plato and set up a winner-takes-all race between himself and Priaulx.

But it was Priaulx who prevailed against Hulkenberg in the decider to give England the shock victory, cheered on by the home crowd.

The three-time World Tour Car champion lost to Vettel in the Nations Cup in 2013 so he was delighted to claim revenge this time out.

Before the competition started, there was a minute silence in memory of the victims of the November 13 attacks in Paris that have left 130 dead.

On Saturday, the Race of Champions individual event will take place where Vettel will be looking to add an individual crown to his four Formula One world championships.

Scottish driver David Coulthard will look to retain the title he won last time out in Barbados.

The Race of Champions is now it`s 26th year having originated in France in 1988. It was cancelled in Bangkok in 2013 due to political unrest in the Thai capital.
