Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Medical Education, Sports and Youth Services R S Chib today declared open Seventh National Matsogi-Do Championship at Maulana Azad Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
The Championship is being hosted by the Jammu and Kashmir for the first time, along with the state chapter of Matsogi-Do Association under the aegis Matsogi-Do India and Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
In all, 650 students from 19 states are participating in the four-day event.
Exhorting the student community to participate in sports activities alongside pursuing academics, Chib said this is important for inculcating discipline, sportsmanship and camaraderie among youth.
He welcomed the participating students and hoped this event will provide them a platform to showcase their talent in different games. He said that the event will also provide much needed exposure to the local lads and inspire them towards the sports activities.
He asked the organizers to ensure comfortable stay for the participating students.
"It is a privilege for Jammu and Kashmir to host such a big national sports event," he maintained.
Referring to the promotion of sports in Jammu and Kashmir, the minister said that major thrust has been laid on building infrastructure and reaching out to the uncovered areas during the past three years so as to provide ample opportunities to the rural youth in various sports.
