New Delhi: 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra was honoured by the International Shooting Sports Federation after acknowledging the shooter's outstanding career as an athlete and being a role model in the sport.

Bindra was awarded with the Diploma of Honour and President's Button which is considered as the highest honour in the sport.

Bindra took to Twitter to show his gratitude for receiving the award.

The 33-year-old has been a role medal for many shooters and sportspersons. Bindra is gunning for glory at the Rio Olympics in 2016, having already secured a quota for the country.

The shooter stated on Thursday that his preparation for the Olympics is going in the right direction.

"My preparations are going fine. I am leaving for Germany for training and competition and I have my team there, including coach and physiotherapist," Bindra said.

Bindra, who shot to fame after clinching the gold medal in 10m air rifle in 2008 Olympics, has also won 7 Commonwealth and 3 Asian Games medals.

He is also the chairman of ISSF's Athletes Committee.
