Kozhikode: About 60 players from across the country are expected to vie for honours in the fifth CIESCO India Open rating Chess tournament from December 9 to 13.
Speaking to mediapersons, P T Ummer Koya, general Convener, Organising Committee, said prominent players to be seen in action includes Jharkhand`s Rohan Chadiliya, Assam`s Cheniralpegu and five-time Kerala state champion Abdul Majid.
The eight-round tournament will conclude on December 13.
Koya said Kozhikode, a coastal city in Kerala is the nerve centre of chess in India for over 30 years, he said, adding it has been headquarters of All India Chess Federation, Commonwealth Chess Association and Office of the Vice President of World Chess Federation.
CIESCO is a prominent social-cultural and educational organisation in Kozhikode.
