AP to hold 45th national wrestling championship from Dec 22
New Delhi: Indian Style Wrestling Association on Thursday announced to hold the first Hind Kesari Title for women in association with its counterpart from Andhra Pradesh in the state from December 22.
Apart from the inaugural title, the association will also host the 45th senior national championship for men and women.
Wrestlers from across the 25 states of the country are expected to vie for a total prize purse of Rs 7.5 lakhs.
While the winner of the Hind Kesari Title in the men`s segment will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and an Enfield motorcycle besides a 1.5Kg silver mace, the title winner in the women`s section will get a cash prize of Rs 51,000.
The winners in each weight category will get Rs 25,000. The runner-up will get Rs 15,000 while the wrestlers placed at third and fourth place will get Rs 10,000 each.
Besides the individual honours, the tournament will also feature a prize money of Rs 10,000 for the winning team.
The championship will be conducted on the knock-out basis.
Talking to the reporters on the occasion, former world champion and Beijing Olympics bronze medal winner, Sushil Kumar hailed the association`s effort to promote the sport and reiterated that more and more such tournaments need to be held in the country to inspire the fresh talent.
"The more tournaments you hold the lesser they are. It is a welcome effort and I believe the tournament will provide a right kind of platform to the budding wrestlers," said Sushil.
