As thick smog chokes Delhi, here's how Gautam Gambhir slammed Delhiites for polluting environment

New Delhi: The Delhiites could barely breathe days after Diwali, as the national capital was covered with thick smog left by the crackers.

Veteran Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is not new to voicing his opinion on social issues, once again came forward as he slammed the civilians, who contribute a lot to the air pollution by bursting crackers during the festive season.

The left-hander, who recently made a Test comeback, wrote on Twitter, "Crackers bursting, Delhi pollution @ record high, children & aged suffering, lungs crying & we call it Happy Diwali. Callous & careless."

The 35-year-old further added that while it was easy to blame the government for not taking steps to curb pollution, he asked the civilians for some introspection.

"It's convenient 2 blame authorities but how about some self-governance? What legacy r we leaving. polluted air & water, adulterated food," he concluded.

Days after Diwali was over, Delhiites continued to grapple with a heavy smog blanket with poor visibility. The air quality index also reached alarming levels across the city.
