New Delhi: The Badminton International Federation (BIF) has given a go-ahead to BAI on venue and other arrangements for the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2012, to be held here from April 24 to 29. In this year`s tournament, spectators will have a free entry to the venue, Sirifort Auditorium.
All the top players from across the world would be vying for the coveted title and also valuable ranking points ahead of the London Olympics. Entries for the tournament have been pouring in and the draw will be made on April 8. With some of the top shuttlers set to play in the tournament, the Badminton Association of India has been pulling in all its resources to make it a grand success. As part of the preparations, a three-member inspection team of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) surveyed the Siri Fort venue and other arrangements, including security measures, today and gave a thumbs-up. The BWF representatives also held a two and half hour- long meeting with the organising committee comprising Ashok Kumar (Executive President, OC), TPS Puri (Secretary, Organising Committee ) and Girish Natu (Technical Director). BWF representative and Super Series marketing manager, Selvamresh Supramaniam said, "BAI has put up efficient initiatives and post inspection things are looking good." Talking about this year`s tournament, Selvamresh expressed confidence that free tickets would ensure more footfalls. "This Super Series will be the last tournament for players to qualify for the London Olympics and the presence of more spectators will only help in supporting and promoting the game." PTI
