Bhandari wins gold to propel host medal tally

Surinder Bhandari of Jharkhand outclassed Sourav Bhandari of Haryana to win the under-63kg gold in the men`s Taekwondo event of the 34th National Games here on Tuesday.

Ranchi: Surinder Bhandari of Jharkhand outclassed Sourav Bhandari of Haryana to win the under-63kg gold in the men`s Taekwondo event of the 34th National Games here on Tuesday.
Losing semi-finalist, Jatinder Verma (MP) and B Janey Dharma (TN) won the bronze medals in the event. The win helped Jharkhand to fetch its fourth overall gold in the tournament which has so far been dominated by the players from Madhya Pradesh and Manipur. In the 53kg women`s taekwondo fight, Latika Bhandari of the Madhya Pradesh beat Manipur`s K Nanacha Devi to bag the gold medal. While Darshanjita Bharali of Jharkhand and the Karnataka`s B Tejaswini settled for bronze. Taekwondo competition ended with sixteen gold medals, eight each in men`s and women`s categories. PTI
