Boxer Dinesh wins opening bout in World Police Games

New York: Asian Games silver medallist boxer Dinesh Kumar on Wednesday entered the second round of the World Police and Fire Games after a narrow win in his opening bout.

Commonwealth Championship gold medallist, Dinesh won 1-0 against Ireland`s Donal Og O Laoire in his opening bout in the light heavy weight 81kg category.

However, it was curtains for S Suresh Singh, who lost 0-5 to Hong Kong`s Ho Cheung Ronald Chan in the opening round of the 63.5kg category.

India`s high-profile Olympic and World Championships bronze medallist Vijender Singh is also competing in the event, the schedule of which was thrown haywire by hurricane Irene that hit New York a couple of days ago.
