British swimmer tells parents to stay away from Delhi CWG

London: Concerned about security in the Delhi Commonwealth Games, British swimmer Fran Halsall has asked her parents not to accompany her to India during the October 3-14 mega-event.

Halsall, who won the silver in the 4X100m freestyle and 4X100m medley relays in Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, said she won’t be able to concentrate on swimming if her parents, Andrew and Diane travel to India to support her. “I don’t want to be worrying about them when I’m in the pool, so I’ve asked them not to come,” Halsall, who won five medals for Britain at the European Championships, was quoted as saying in the ‘Daily Mail’.Halsall joins fellow swimmer and Beijing Olympic 10km silver medallist, David Davies, who also told his parents to stay away from Delhi.Former Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser had also expressed concerns over the security in the Delhi Games, which will miss many top stars. Among others, Australia and New Zealand have raised major concerns about the security for the Games, even though the Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell, during his recent visit to the Indian capital, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.
