New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced a cash award of Rs 15 lakh to Sushil Kumar on becoming the first Indian wrestler to win a gold medal in the World Championship in Moscow.
Hailing his victory, Dikshit said the whole nation is expecting much more from Kumar in the ensuing Commonwealth Games and other international sporting events.
Sushil became the first Indian to win a gold medal after defeating Russian Gogaev to win the 66 kg freestyle title in the World Championship in Moscow on 12th September.
"He is a true Delhiite who brought pride to entire nation. The city government feels elated in congratulating and honouring Kumar who struggled hard to achieve excellence," Dikshit said.
Kumar was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2009, the highest award for any sportsperson.
