Cavaliers suspend Bynum for detrimental conduct

Boston, Mass.: The Cleveland Cavaliers have suspended center Andrew Bynum indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant announced Saturday.

Bynum has averaged 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots over 24 games in his first season with the Cavaliers. The team did not reveal details of what Bynum had done to incur the punishment, but he did not travel with the Cavaliers to a Saturday game at Boston and has been banished from all team activities, not just games. Bynum, 26, missed the entire 2012-13 season due to knee problems. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees last March, seven months after Philadelphia obtained Bynum from the Los Angeles Lakers. Bynum signed a two-year deal worth almost $25 million with Cleveland last July, but the Cavaliers would be on the hook for only $6 million if they release Bynum before January 7. The Cavaliers arrived in Boston on a three-game losing streak but at 10-18 are only 1.5 games behind Boston for the eighth-best record in the Eastern Conference.
