Chinappa beats giant-killer Schmohl, wins German Ladies Open

New Delhi: Joshna Chinappa tamed
giant-killer Gaby Schmohl of Switzerland in straight sets to

Second seed Chinappa outplayed Schmohl 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 in
a 22-minute final yesterday.

Chinappa survived some anxious moments during the summit
clash against her Swiss opponent, who ousted top seed Line
Hansen of Denmark in the semifinal.

In the quarterfinal, Chinappa had routed eighth seed
Carrie Ramsey of England 11-3, 11-8, 11-3 and then got the
better of French qualifier Melissa Alves 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 in the
final-four stage.
