CM hands over cash prizes to CWG and Asian Games medalists

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister PK Dhumal gave away cash awards to Commonwealth and Asian Games medal winners at the Statehood Day function at Hamirpur.

He presented a draft of Rs 41 lakh to Subedar Vijay Kumar for winning three gold medal and one silver in shooting events in the CWG and two bronze in the Asian Games in China.

Dhumal handed Rs eight lakh to Samresh Jung for winning one silver Medal and bronze each in shooting events in the Commonwealth Games.

Other shooters Sonia Rai and Meena Kumari received Rs five lakh and Rs three lakh respectively for winning silver in Asian Games and bronze Medal in Commonwealth Games.

The chief minister also gave cash prizes of Rs 40,000 to Sanjo Devi for winning two gold medals in athletics in the National Women`s Festival and Rs 20,000 to Neeraj Sharma for winning one gold, one silver and one bronze in sailing competitions in China, ISAF Nations Cup in Mumbai and Qatar International Racing Cup.

Rita Kumari, Bandana, Manisha and Mamta were also given cash prizes.

Dhumal also announced Rs 3.68 crore for construction of stadium in Government Boys Senior Secondary School at Hamirpur, Synthetic track at Hamirpur and Dharamsala, stadium at Jaisinghpur and Rohru, badminton stadium at Shimla, Mandi and Bilaspur, Gumma Cricket Stadium, Gharnota stadium in Chamba district and stadium at Nirmand and Indoor stadium in Shimla and Dharamsala.
