CSI criticises VK Malhotra's appointment as AISC chief

Clean Sports India, a movement for corruption-free sports in the country, has criticised Vijay Kumar Malhotra's appointment as the new Chairman of All India Sports Council and has called on the government to reconsider the move.

New Delhi: Clean Sports India, a movement for corruption-free sports in the country, has criticised Vijay Kumar Malhotra's appointment as the new Chairman of All India Sports Council and has called on the government to reconsider the move.

"Clean Sports India (CSI) strongly feels that the PMO has made a serious mistake in appointing Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra as the Chairman of All India Sports Council. The government has been struggling to implement government guidelines imposing age restriction of 70 years on Sports Federations and IOA," CSI President Ashwini Nachappa said in a statement.

"It is Mr Malhotra who has been the prime violator of this guidelines and this reward and elevation to the Chairman's post is disappointing and objectionable," she added.

The sports council which advised the ministry on all major policy matters. CSI said it was now violating its own guidelines which suggest one rule for federations and another for its officials.
