CWG baton reaches Haridwar

Haridwar: Queen`s Baton Relay (QBR) of the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday reached the pilgrim town of Haridwar, where it was received by local administration led by Uttarakhand Tourism and Environment Minister Madan Kaushik on the bank of river Ganga.

The baton reached Har-Ki-Pauri, the main bathing ghat here, this morning and took part in morning Ganga Aarti attended by prominent personalities of the holly town.

Later, priests also performed special puja for unhindered conduct and success of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi from October 3-14.

The baton was later taken in boats to Birla ghat from where it was escorted by players and administrative officials to various places of the town.

Later, the baton left for Srinagar town of Uttarakhand by a helicopter.

The QBR was launched by Queen Elizabeth II at London in October last year in presence of President Pratibha Patil and would culminate in Delhi.
