New Delhi: Olympic champion Miroslav Varga of Czech Republic has agreed to involve himself with the Indian shooting fraternity by sponsoring the country`s first website on the sport.
Varga, who won a gold medal for then Czechoslovakia at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, will be taking care of matters relating to finance for `indianshooting.com`.
As part of the sponsorship deal, brand Varga, which specialises in shooting glasses for both rifle and pistol shooters, will be promoted in India by the website.
Varga, who has a lot of technical experience in the sport, helps shooters by giving them tips free of charge.
"I am happy to associate with indianshooting.com and am also very happy to see in India so many excellent shooters and the numbers increasing by the day. I have been observing the progress made by Indian shooters over the last 15 years," said Varga.
Varga was 27 when he shot a perfect 600 out of 600 and 103.9 in the Olympic finals to clinch the yellow metal in the 50 metre rifle prone event in Seoul 23 years ago.
"I was also in touch with Indian team`s rifle coach Laszlo Szucsak to monitor Indian shooters. I see a very big potential for shooting sports in India," he said.
Later, he participated at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 where he shot a score of 591.
At the age of 47, Varga also participated in the prone event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 when he shot 590.
At the recent Czech Championship, Varga shot 596 and 104.6 in the final.
