Berlin: Russian heavyweight boxer Denis Boytzov has been placed in an induced coma a week after being found unconscious in the Berlin metro, the German press reported on Tuesday.

Germany-based Boytzov, 29, has been fighting for his life since being found by a train conductor suffering serious head injuries.

"We know nothing about the circumstances of the accident and we won`t be making any comment. We only hope that he will recover soon," promoter Kalle Sauderland told the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper.

"The situation is even more tragic as Denis will become a father in three weeks," his agent Gagik Chatschatryan added.

Boytsov, a WBO challenger, has a 36-1 record with 27 KOs. His only defeat was to Australian Alex Leapai in November 2013.
