Derrick clinches National Boardsailing Championships

Panaji: Derrick overcame strong wind conditions and tough competition to win the National Boardsailing Championships title.

The boardsailors literally flew over the waves as they raced in the ninth leg of the championships.

Donald, Remy and Derrick started one behind the other in close formation, but Donald held the lead till the windward mark followed by Derrick and Remy.

Derrick then powered on and raced past Donald to take the lead. However, a determined Donald snatched the lead again in a tacking duel on the beat and led till the fag end of the race.

But Derrick stole the show in the last moment. Donald and Remy finished second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, young Dayne bagged the National Junior title.

In the laser full rig, Gajendar Singh won both the races of the day and the overall championship too.

Gajendar had a tough fight on his hands with Sukhvir Singh and Mohanlal breathing down his neck. Gajendar managed to keep both the opponents at bay in both the races which saw plenty of capsizes in the strong wind conditions.

Ultimately top three honours were taken away by Gajendar, Harihara and Sukhvir.
