Dipika Pallikal loses in quarters of World Open

Mumbai: India`s no 1 woman player Dipika Pallikal crashed out of the PSA World Open Squash after losing to Mexican rival Samantha Teran at Rotterdam.

Dipika, who had reached the last eight of the women`s section, with impressive wins over 14th seed Jaclyn Hawkes of New Zealand and Kanzy El Dafrawy of Egypt, was beaten 0-3 by 15th seeded Teran in 36 minutes, according to information available.

The Mexican, who made her maiden entry in the semis, defeated her 20-year-old Indian rival 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.

Dipika had earlier got past Hawkes 3-1 and El Dafrawy 3-0 in her first two encounters to reach the last eight of World Open for the first time.

She committed a lot of unforced errors in her clash against the steady Teran to hand over a 2-0 lead to the Mexican player.

The Chennai-based Dipika cut down on her mistakes in the third and attacked with vigour to storm back for a 9-6 lead in the third.

But at 9-8, luck went against Dipika, as her rival was awarded a debatable "stroke". Later the Indian hit a forehand into the tin at match-ball to make her exit.

"I had already played Dipika and I knew what to do against her. But she is very difficult to play, you never know what she is going to do," said Teran after her victory.
