Doha: Etiene Medeiros set a new world record of 25.67sec on her way to gold in the women`s 50m backstroke at the World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Doha.

The 23-year-old Brazilian lowered by 0.03secs the previous mark held since December 2009 by Serbia`s Sanja Jovanovic.

It was the 20th world record of the five-day event which concludes on Sunday night at the Hamad Aquatic Centre.
