Fennell fears corruption allegations could impact Games

New Delhi: Fearing that the corruption
allegations against Commonwealth Games Organising Committee
could impact on the October 3-14 multi-sporting event here,
CGF chief Michael Fennell on Wednesday demanded immediate attention
by the Indian authorities in the matter.

Fennell said the CGF was seriously concerned about the
allegations and the matter should be dealt urgently so that
they do not affect the conduct of the 2010 Games in Delhi.

"Federation is really concerned about the allegations and
the matter needs very urgent and immediate attention by the
Indian authorities. The allegations have led to such level of
corruption that has breached all the rules of how you procure
and how you handle the matter," Fennell said.

"That`s why we need to resolve this speedily. We can`t
allow it to hang over the Games and affect the organisation of
the Games, therefore such allegations needs to be handled
speedily and with full transparency," he told a news
channel.

The Commonwealth Games have been rocked by a series of
corruption allegations recently and its organising committee
headed by Suresh Kalmadi have set up a penal to investigate
the matter.
