German sports leader Manfred von Richthofen dies

Berlin: German sports dignitary Manfred von Richthofen, who was behind the merger between the German Olympic Committee and German Federation of Sports in 2006, has died, the German Olympic Committee said on Friday.

Von Richthofen, who shared a name with the famous World War I fighter ace known as the Red Baron, was 80.

He was a former teacher, top-level hockey player and coach.
