Haryana approves new Sports Policy

Haryana Government today, approved the Sports Policy, 2009 to create a culture of sports by imbibing higher moral and ethical values.

Chandigarh: Haryana Government today, approved the Sports Policy, 2009 to create a culture of
sports by imbibing higher moral and ethical values, spirit of comradeship and the desire to excel by taking various steps, including setting up a Sports Authority of Haryana (SAH). The policy approved by the state cabinet at its meeting here presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also aims at encouraging mass participation in sports, promote excellence in sports, develop, maintain and optimally utilize high quality sports infrastructure, to encourage, train and support sportspersons to participate in national and international championships in a large numbers. An official spokesman said later that it was felt that the policy would lay special emphasis on strengthening of infrastructure and facilitates in educational institutions, including universities and channelize vibrant youth energy for sports activities and physical fitness. It would also recognize talent in sports and reward young women and men, who achieve excellence in sports. The policy also aimed at recognizing special needs of disabled and facilitate their participation in sports and encourage adventure sports in the State, he said. He said that the new policy aimed at consolidating the progress made so far, espousing new initiatives and making adjustments that shall enable the Government to promote sports with a renewed resolve and fresh vigour and to provide excellent opportunities to emerging and promising sportspersons.
