New Delhi: Former Olympians are confident
that Indian hockey team will break the medal jinx at the
upcoming Commonwealth Games despite the stiff competition they
will face from stronger teams.
Indian men`s hockey team has never won a medal at the
Games while their women counterparts have won a Gold and
Silver.
Ajit Pal Singh, who led India to gold in 1975 World Cup,
said the current team, to be led by Rajpal Singh, will finally
break the jinx.
"There are some top teams in the Games but our team has
in it to make it to the podium," Ajit Pal said.
The former captain spoke at the release of a book `Indian
Hockey and Commonwealth Games`, penned by senior journalist
Satyendra Pal.
Former coach and Olympian Zafar Iqbal was also present on
at the book-launch function and he said the youngsters need to
be told about the golden era of Indian hockey for inspiration.
"Today`s generation does not know about the former
greats. Efforts should be made in this regard. If the new
generation players get to know about the former players, they
will definitely get some inspiration," Iqbal said.
