HP to explore possibilities of setting up Sports Authority: CM

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government would explore possibilities of constituting HP Sports Authority under the chairmanship of chief minister to oversee sports promotion activities down to village-level.

Stating this at the state sports council meeting, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said that the departmental authorities would study memorandum in different states to constitute such authority.

After the constitution of the said authority, the body, the sports council would be merged into it, he added.

Dhumal said with a view to retaining the sports talent in the state, three per cent reservation was being provided to them in government jobs and so far 256 outstanding sportspersons had been given employment in different departments.

He said that various sports associations would now be getting enhanced grant-in-aid which would be Rs 75,000 to "A" category, Rs 50,000 to "B" category and Rs 35,000 to "C" category instead of existing grants of Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

Dhumal said that with the enhanced financial assistance, sports activities would get boost at all levels and the department of youth services and sports would be associating the HP Cricket Association to recruit more coaches in different games, especially in cricket to polish more sports talents in the state.
