India bag five medals in bodybuilding, Hira Lal wins gold

Mumbai: India bagged a haul of five medals, including a gold and two silvers, in the 65th IFBB Men`s World Amateur Bodybuilding Championship, which concluded on Sunday night in Mumbai.

Hira Lal did the country proud by winning gold in the under-65 kg category. The silver in the category was won by another Indian, Irabanta Singh.

Maheshwaran won another silver for the country in the under-70kg category.

S K Musthaq and Ashish Sakharkar won bronze in the under-60 and under-75 category respectively.

Overall, India finished second in the team category with 77 points, behind Egypt which had 97 points.

Bahrain`s Alhaddad Sami, who won gold in the under-90kg category, was named the "Champion of Champions".

In a glitch, India`s national anthem was stopped mid-way due to a "technical fault" when Hira Lal went to collect his gold medal, prompting the audience to complete it.
