New Delhi: In a sport like archery where archers need better body positioning, enhance breathing techniques, and above all, an unflinching concentration, Yoga may come handy.
After a strong showing at the recently concluded Archery World Championships in Denmark, Archery Association of India (AAI) is ready to help its archers by introducing Yoga to strengthen their minds.
According reports, AAI president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who is also a senior Bhartiya Janata Party leader, has approached Baba Ramdev to conduct Yoga sessions for Indian archers, keeping in mind the upcoming 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
"We have realised that our archers need yoga sessions in order to become mentally strong during intense competitions. This, I feel, will help our archers win medals at the Rio Olympics next year," Malhotra was quoted as saying.
It's also learnt that India's medal hopeful at the Rio Games, Deepika Kumari herself has requested the AAI to hold yoga lessons. Her move also reportedly got the backing of team-mate Rimil Buriuly.
Malhotra added, "I will speak to Baba Ramdev in a day or two. I am sure he will help ourarchers." But he did shared the association's predicament, "AAI doesn't have funds. The government has suspended us."
In such a scenario, Indian archery may require much more than Yoga sessions.
