Indian women kabaddi team begins on winning note

Patna: Briliant efforts by Krishna and Abhilasha helped Asian Cup holders India trounce South Korea 34-18 on the opening day of of the 1st Women`s World Cup Kabaddi Championship at the Patliputra Sports Complex on Thursday.

Winning the toss, Korea raided the opponent citadel and secured five points with four of them being bonuses in the first half, while India notched up 24 points including four bonus points.

In the second half Korea bounced back with an attacking brand of game and earned 13 points with six bonuses while India managed to score 10 points with three bonuses.

At the end of the match, India secured 34 points to Korea`s 18.

Krishna and Abhilasha Mhatre both scored five points each for the winners, Priyanka Negi earned four while Suvarna Bartakhe, Mamatha Poojari (captain), Deepika Henary Josheph and Priyanka Kumari earned three points each.

Hyuna Jo was the lone player who earned seven points for the opponent team while Hyunjeong lee bagged six.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the tournament and inspected the 16 teams participating in the event from across the world.
