New Delhi: A Dallas-based insurance company has said that it has asked disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong to return USD 12 million in bonuses paid to the American for winning Tour de France titles.
“Mr. Armstrong is no longer the official winner of any Tour de France races and as a result it is inappropriate and improper for him to retain any bonus payments made by SCA," SCA attorney Jeff Dorough was quoted as saying by a new agency.
SCA promotions has also threatened to take legal action against Armstrong on the basis of his false testimonies given in court after the company had earlier refused to pay him bonuses in 2004 citing doping allegations.
The company had withheld USD 5 million following his 2004 Tour de France victory after the cyclist was accused to have been involved in doping.
Armstrong took the company to court and subsequently won the case because the original contract between SCA and Tailwind Sports (the parent company of US Postal Service team) had no stipulations about doping.
