Isinbayeva breaks own indoor world record

Stockholm: Russia`s Jelena Isinbayeva won the women`s pole vault at the Stockholm indoor tournament scaling a height of 5.01 metres and breaking her own world record.

By jumping across 4.82 metres and 4.92 metres successively on Thursday, Isinbayeva had proved her dominance and pocketed the gold medal. But she carried on and broke the previous world record of 5.00 metres set by her in Donetsk, Ukraine in 2009.

The two-time Olympic champion cleared the bar on her second attempt at Globe Arena. Great Britain`s Holly Bleasdale was second and Cuban Yarisley Silva was third, both clearing 4.72 metres.

The record was Isinbayeva`s 13th in indoors and 28th in total. The Russian hadn`t won at a major championship since defending her Olympic gold in Beijing four years ago. She failed to make the podium at last year`s world championships in South Korea, finishing sixth. She had returned to competing earlier in 2011 after a year-long break.
