Ranchi: The 34th edition of the National Games, starting tomorrow after facing several postponements, will be the best ever, Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi asserted here on Friday.
“It was much delayed. But the delay has been worthwhile,” Kalmadi told reporters announcing that the Games this time will go as per schedule tomorrow. Kalmadi also said the core team for the London Olympics 2012 will be picked from the National Games. “This is going to be the first trial for the London Olympics 2012. We will pick the core team here and then we will send them for coaching camps,” he said. Giving full credit to the Jharkhand Olympic Association, Kalmadi said the hosts have developed world class infrastructure.“This is the best infrastructure I’ve seen anywhere in the country and everything including the Games village at one venue. This is going to be the largest National Games ever held. Jharkhand government has provided all the support and I’m sure this is going to be very good. “This is a world class infrastructure. I’ve never seen it before that everything is located at one place. I have seen the arrangements in Jamshedpur also, those were also very impressive,” Kalmadi said. PTI
