Jepkosgei beaten but Kenya top African medals table
Nairobi: Hosts Kenya won five golds on the final day of the African championships to finish top of the medals table, despite Janeth Jepkosgei`s surprise defeat by Algeria`s Zahra Bouras in the women`s 800 metres.
Jepkosgei, silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics and again at the World championships in Berlin last year, was pipped to Sunday`s finish by Bouras, who clocked 2:00.22 to the Kenyan`s 2:00.50.
Kenya finished the championships with a total of 10 gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals. Nigeria were behind them with eight gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
South Africa, who topped the table in Ethiopia two years ago, were third this time with six golds.
