Gurgaon: Seven junior golfers were given lessons on long game, short game, course management and also on the mental aspects of golf during Albatross-Hank Haney IJGA`s three-day golf school.
The `golf school`, conducted by the Albatross Junior Tour in conjunction with the Hank Haney IJGA, saw five boys and two girls put through their paces at Karma Lakelands, the nine-hole facility here.
Director of Golf at Hank Haney IJGA, Matt Fields, was in charge of coaching and he made use of the most advanced instruction methods to dissect the games of the juniors.
Through thorough swing analysis (recorded on video camera), each student was able to discover every small detail of his or her swing.
Fields also had the juniors play 18 holes -- nine holes to assess their course management skills, and nine more to find out how good they were at scoring.
At the prize presentation for Albatross tournament no. 38 -- held concurrently with the golf school -- Fields spoke of the importance of having a proper training program in place.
"Practice should always be about quality, and not quantity," he said.
Fields also shared with the students three ways to lower scores: by eliminating three-putts, penalty shots and two-chips.
The school is expected to become a regular feature in the junior golf calendar in India. Best of all, top Indian juniors will be invited to undertake a more extensive coaching program at the academy`s home, in Hilton Head Island (South Carolina), USA.
