Jwala takes break, Ashwini looks for a new partner
New Delhi: With ace Indian shuttler Jwala Gutta deciding to take a six-month break from the game, her doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa will now have to hunt for a new partner.
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist pair had missed the quarterfinal berth in women`s doubles event at the London Olympics by a whisker and Jwala has now decided to take a sabbatical of six months.
"Jwala has decided to take a break of six months. She has asked me to find a new partner and continue playing till she comes back. So I will be concentrating on the mixed doubles with Tarun (Kona)," Ashwini told PTI.
"I have not yet decided on my new partner but hopefully by the next month ends, I will be able to figure out. There are many talented girls and I am sure I will get someone to continue playing the women`s doubles," she added.
Ashwini said she will be playing only the mixed doubles events next months.
"Next month, there are two important events coming up in China and Japan. I will be playing mixed doubles events with Tarun there," she said.
Ashwini and Tarun are ranked 82 as a mixed doubles pair.
Li Ning China Masters and Japan Open will be held from September 11-16 and September 18-23 respectively.
