Karthikeyan in contention for gold in World Youth Chess

Caldas Novas (Brazil): India`s Karthikeyan Murali outwitted team-mate and top seed Aravindh Chithambaram in the penultimate round to share the lead with Hungarian Fide Master Gledura Benjamin with seven points in the Under-12 Open category of the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship.

With seven points in his kitty, Karthikeyan has a superior tie-break score than his Hungarian joint leader and the Indian camp is hoping for a gold medal finish from the Tamil Nadu teenager when he takes on Ravi Haria of England in the final round.

Meanwhile, overnight leader in the Under-14 Open section, Diptayan Ghosh slipped to second position after settling for a draw against Duda Jan-Krzysztof of Poland.

With just one round remaining, other medal contenders in the Indian camp are Ram Aravind in Under-8 Open, Rathanvel V S in Under-10 Open, Debashis Das, Stany in Under-18 Open, Nandhidhaa, Prathyusha Bodda in Under-16 Girls and Srija Seshadri in Under-14 Girls category.
