Following his surprise win over fancied Aditya Agrawal in the third round, Khubchandani became the giant-killer in the competition as he overcame Bharat Petroleum’s Joshi 30-7, 40-19, 45-34, 55-48. Khubchandani’s effort overshadowed Railways cueist R Girish’s thrilling 4-3 win over Pune’s Yogesh Sharma in another round of 32 encounter.Mumbai-based Girish trailed 0-2 and 2-3 before snatching a crucial sixth frame in a tight finish and took the decider with a significant break of 32 to seal the match. Billards ace Geet Sethi and Railways’ snooker and 9-ball pool champion Rafath Habib scored impressive wins to advance to the pre-quarter-finals. Also making the last 16 were Delhi’s Sandeep Gulati, Kolkata’s Manish Jain and Mumbai’s Nikhil Ootam. Mahesh Jagdale, who fired the highest break in the competition thus far with an unfinished 65 in the third frame Reza Merchant in the fourth round, defeated Arun Agrawal 4-1 in the round of 32.
