Kothari enters Kences-ASCA International snooker final
Chennai: Local favourite Sourav Kothari sailed into the final of the Kences Constructions-ASCA International Snooker Championships with a 5-1 win over Thailand`s Noppon Saengkham on friday.

Kothari, who defeated Andy Lee of Hong Kong 4-2 in the quarter-final, was in his usual rhythm and defeated Noppon 57-68, 93(55)-31, 118(60,57)-1, 95(65)-16, 109(57,49)-11, 77(71)-7 in the semi-finals.

Kothari had defeated Lee 13-108(100), 59-50, 78-39, 92(91)-0, 21-69, 65-26 in the quarter-finals earlier in the day.


In the match against Noppon, Kothari lost the first frame after building up a break of 47 but did not lose his focus.

Putting up a consistent display, Kothari made breaks of 55 in the second frame, 60 and 57 in the third frame, 65 in the fourth and 57 and 49 in the fifth frame.

Coming up with a totally controlled game, Kothari settled the issue beyond doubt when he made a break of 71 in the sixth frame.

Kothari will meet the winner of the other semi-final encounter between compatriot Kamal Chawla and Steven Chau of Hong Kong in the final.
