Mary Kom along with five others enter finals at Asian Meet

New Delhi: India`s women pugilists created history with as many as six of them making it to the title round in various categories, at the 6th Asian Women Boxing Championship at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Led by Olympic medal contender MC Mary Kom (51 kgs), the others who made it were Pinky Jangra (48 kgs), Sonia Lather (54 kgs), Sarita Devi (60 kgs), Monica Saun (64 kgs) and Pooja Rani (75 Kgs). In the 51 kg category, Mary Kom thrashed Alice Kate Aparri of Phillipines 21-6. At the end of first round, Mary was leading 2-1 which extended to 12-5 by round three and finished with a score of 21-6. She now meets Ren Cancan of China in the finals. The bout of the day was in the 60 kgs between Sarita Devi and current Asian Games Gold Medalist Cheng Dong of China. Sarita won the bout comprehensively by a score of 26-15 points. She will now meet Chorieva Mavzuna of Tajkistan in on Sunday’s final. In the 48 kg bout, Pinky defeated Yujie Luo of China by 15-13 margin. She will now meet Bolortuul Tumurhuyag of Mongolia in the finals. In the 54 kgs, Sonia Lather beat Gulzhan Akimova of Kazakhstan by 22-14 margin and will now meet Ke Jia Liu of China in the finals. In the 69-Kg, Monica defeated Dapana Durage Shiromali of Sri Lanka 23-9. She will fight for gold against Dong Mei Wang of China in the finals. In the 75 kg event, Pooja smashed Srim Paek of Korea 21-8 to set up title date against Jinzi Li of China in the finals. PTI
