New Delhi: Ace boxer MC Mary Kom joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on Friday in Imphal.
The five-time world champion was nominated to participate in the government's Clean India Mission by businessman Anil Ambani.
The Asian Games gold medallist swept the street of Khongnang-ani Karak and Dingku road in the town around 6.30am.
Manipur Rifles personnel, her boxing academy staff and hostellers of the Manipur Baptist Convention Centre also joined Mary Kom as she set about completing her challenge.
Mr. Modi, who launched the cleanliness campaign on October 2, lauded the Manipuri boxer for her contribution. He tweeted: “Swachh Bharat Mission will get a great impetus by Mary Kom joining the Mission in Imphal”.
Part of the mission also includes inviting others to complete the challenge. Hence Darshan Kumar, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Heena Sidhu, Sunil Chhetri and Monnet Sports Foundation members were nominated by Mary Kom.
