Nachappa appeals for IOA`s expulsion

Bangalore: Clean Sports India President Ashwini Nachappa has said the IOC should expel the Indian Olympic Association for continuing to defy its guidelines on good governance and form an ad-hoc body to carry forward the Olympic movement in the country.
"Clean Sports India will appeal to International Olympic Committee (IOC) to expel the Indian Olympic Association and constitute an ad-hoc committee to look after the interest of Indian sportspersons to compete under the Indian flag," she said in a statement here. "CSI is extremely disappointed with the IOA which has brought shame on the entire sports community by not adhering to IOC`s final directive of amending their constitution as per its guidelines," the former Indian athlete said. In its meeting held yesterday in Delhi, the IOA has once again defied the IOC by not amending its constitution to prohibit persons facing criminal charges in court. In it`s last communication, IOC informed that it will give one last chance to the suspended IOA to mend their ways and get the suspension revoked, Nachappa said. "But the few individuals, who are facing criminal charges are adamant and are not accepting IOC directives even if it meant denial of Indian athletes participating under the Indian flag. Such blatant defiance by self-serving individuals will only lead to the expulsion of IOA by IOC," Nachappa said. Condemning the manner in which the IOA meeting was conducted yesterday, Nachappa objected to participation of unauthorised persons in the meeting. "All these issues will be placed before the IOC and Sports Ministry for conducting an enquiry," she said.
