Pune: The four-day 16th National Road Cycling Championships, featuring 600 participants in men, women, boys and girls categories representing 21 units of the Cycling Federation of India and four board members, will be held in Pune from Thursday.
The championship is to be held over a 8-km long loop between Nashik Phata and Nigdi (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) and the nationals are to be held in Pune after a gap of five years, a media release said.
A total of 30 races in 11 categories are to be held.
In the men`s section, Karnataka, Railways, Services and Punjab Police would be the key competitors while in the women`s section, Kerala and member Board teams are strong claimants for the medals.
At the last Nationals in Patna, Karnataka walked away with 7 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals, followed by Kerala with a 7-4-7 collection.
Railways (4-5-1), Haryana (3-3-2), Services (2-1-0), Maharashtra (1-2-1), Andhra Pradesh (1-0-0), Rajasthan (0-1-3), Orissa (0-1-0), Delhi (0-0-2), Tamil Nadu (0-0-2) and Madhya Pradesh (0-0-1) finished behind the top two in that order.
