Ahmedabad: The 24th edition of All India G V Mavalankar shooting championship was on Sunday inaugurated at the Rifle Club in Khanpur area here.

The 11-day event is organised by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) with the cooperation of Gujarat State Rifle Association and the Ahmedabad Military and Rifle Training Association, according to a release issued by organisers.

"More than 1300 sportspersons from across the country will be participating in the various shooting events in this championship," spokesperson of the event, Maulik Joshi said.

The winners will participate in upcoming national and international events, he said.

According to Joshi, the first shooting championship was organised in the year 1960, when Gujarat was separated from Bombay State.

The event is organised in memory of the first speaker of Lok Sabha G V Mavalankar.
