Negi settles for second place at Parsvnath chess
New Delhi: National champion Parimarjan Negi
settled for a second place finish after top seed Ukrainian
Grandmaster Alexnader Areshchenko clinched the title on the
basis of better tie break score at the 8th Parsvnath
International Chess tournament here on Sunday.
Negi, who won the national championship last month, was
tied along with Areshchenko, Yuriy Kuzubov, Austrian
Grandmaster Ragger Markus and Chinese Grandmaster Ni Hua with
nine points each at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex here.
In the final round encounters, Negi overcame CRG Krishna
while Markus defeated Grandmaster Hanens Stefansson of Iceland
and Ni Hua beat former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta to
catch up with Areshchenko for the pole position.
Areshchenko set for a draw with fellow Ukrainian
Grandmaster Yuriy Kuzubov in the eleventh round but better tie
break score helped Areshchenko to take the Winners trophy and
pocketed a shared cash prize of Rs 1.51 lakh.
Kuzubov finished at the third spot, while Markus and Ni
Hua finished fourth and fifth respectively.
