Rolla: Norway`s Thor Hushovd powered to victory over Juan Jose Haedo of Argentina in a tight sprint finish to the Tour of Missouri`s third stage on Wednesday and claimed the overall race lead via a tiebreaker.
Hushovd, a multiple Tour de France stage winner, took the honours in the 183.9 kilometre (114.3-mile) Farmington to Rolla road race in four hours, 26 minutes and 50 seconds.
Haedo secured his second runner-up finish in the week-long race with Italy`s Dario Cataldo placing third, each of them posting the same time as Hushovd.
Overnight race leader Mark Cavendish of Britain, a 10-times Tour de France stage winner, crossed the line in fifth to drop into second spot in the overall standings.
Cavendish and Hushovd share the same race time via stage win bonus times. However the Norwegian gained the overall lead based on the lowest cumulative points aggregate from stage finishes -- totalling six points.
Cavendish has seven points, following his two stage wins and fifth place on Wednesday.
Haedo, who has finished second twice and third in the opening stages, lies third overall with four stages remaining. He trails Hushovd by four seconds in the overall standings.
The seven-stage race continues on Thursday with the 175.7 kilometre St. James to Jefferson City road race. The USD 170,000 race concludes on Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri.
