Pakistan rally to beat China 5-3
Karachi: Pakistan suffered a scare before pulling off a 5-3 victory over a spirited China in the second hockey test on Thursday.
The green shirted Pakistanis fought back from a two-goal deficit by the 11th minute to eventually win 5-3 at the Hockey Club of Pakistan stadium and take a two nil lead in the four match series.
The visiting Chinese side are the first foreign team to visit Pakistan after seven years.
In the last seven years, foreign teams have avoided touring Pakistan and no international event has also been held in the country due to the security situation prevailing in many parts of the country.
Pakistan, which last hosted the Champions Trophy in 2004, lost the right to host the 2008 event due to security and safety concerns by the participating teams.
The second test was played at a fast pace and by the 11th minute the Chinese players had scored two goals.
But Pakistan fought back strongly through forwards Waqas Sharif and Haseem Khan who netted two goals each while Ali Shan scored once.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation sees the series as the first step towards reviving international hockey events in Pakistan.
China will play two more tests in Faisalabad and Karachi.
