New Delhi: Second seed Parimarjan Negi
scored a fine victory over Grandmaster Saidali Iuldachev of
Uzbekistan to share the lead with compatriot Sriram Jha and
Pavel Maletin of Russia after the sixth round of the Parsvnath
Commonwealth Chess Championship here today.
Parimarjan surged into the joint lead with 5.5 points
after Sriram and Pavel settled for a draw in 18 moves.
Opting to play Ruy Lopez opening with white pieces,
Parimarjan outwitted his rival Iuldachev in 37 moves.
Meanwhile, young Tamil Nadu International Master K
Priyadharshan, continued with his impressive show in the
championship and held top seed Alexey Dreev of Russia to a
Playing with white pieces in advanced variation of
Caro-Kan defence, Priyadharshan forced his fancied rival to
settle for half point in 47 moves.
Earlier in the fourth and fifth round encounters,
Priyadharshan beat Grandmaster Pablo Lafuente of Argentina and
Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan respectively.
In other sixth round matches, Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta
signed peace treaty with his Ukrainian counterpart Martyn
Kravtsiv while Abhijit Kunte and B Adhiban too had to settle
for draws with S Nitin and Stany G A respectively.
Parimarjan will take on Sriram while Pavel will face top
seed Dreev in the crucial seventh round tomorrow.
