Pelicans lose Eric Gordon to left shoulder injury

New Orleans Pelicans starting guard Eric Gordon has been sidelined indefinitely with a torn labrum in his left shoulder, the NBA club announced Monday.

Gordon, a seven-year NBA veteran, suffered the injury Saturday in the Pelicans` 106-94 victory over Utah when he separated his shoulder.

He will undergo further evaluation this week by the team`s medical staff to decide how best to treat the injury.

In 12 games this season, Gordon has averaged 9.5 points and 2.0 assists a game for New Orleans.

The Pelicans are 7-5, last in the Southwest division, which is by far the toughest in the league.

Memphis sets the pace at an NBA-best 12-2 followed by Houston at 10-3, Dallas at 10-4, reigning NBA champion San Antonio at 9-4, on a four-game win streak, and the Pelicans.

New Orleans forward Anthony Davis ranks second in NBA scoring this season, averaging 26.3 points over 12 games, just behind Los Angeles lakers guard Kobe Bryant.
